A Hull man will don his running shoes in an effort to raise money for a charity next month as he plans to run a half-marathon every day for 25 days.
Kallum Findley, 27, will begin his fundraising efforts on August 13, the day of his 28th birthday in a bid to generate funds for a good cause while also paying tribute to his late father. Tragically, Kallum’s father Gavin passed away 25 years ago when he was participating in the Great North Run, billed as the world’s biggest half-marathon. The race is known as an arduous course which has sadly claimed the lives of several runners over the years.
Kallum is raising funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) which is a charity that raises awareness about young sudden cardiac deaths and promotes heart screening for youths. His efforts will raise much needed funds for the organisation and will see him clock up over 327 miles in less than a month.
The charity said it wants: “All young people to have the opportunity to have heart screening. One in 300 people will have a potentially life threatening heart condition which will benefit from lifestyle advice, treatment and sometimes corrective surgery.”
The charity assists families who are affected by the death of someone from a young sudden cardiac death and offer bereavement support programmes. CRY funds world leading research in a bid to understand the causes of the issue so they can help prevent further deaths.
Kallum has been busy training for his mammoth attempt which saw him complete the London Marathon in April and clocking up plenty of miles on the treadmill. He has also been out and about — running outdoors while taking advantage of the recent good weather.
The 25 half-marathon journey will end on September 7, fittingly after Kallum completes the Great North Run when he crosses the finish line in South Shields.
Kallum said: “Starting on my birthday, August 13, I will be running a half marathon every day for 25 days, ending on 7th September by doing the Great Northern Run, the race my dad sadly passed away doing 25 years ago.
“I will have a little help along the way, if anyone wants to run a leg or even a bit with me please DM me and I can get that arranged.”
A JustGiving page has been set up to collect donations towards the cause and Kallum said he appreciates any donations which will be used to support the CRY Charity. You can find out more and donate by clicking here.
