A police officer used Pava spray to quell a man who was attempting to run away during an incident involving an assault on an officer.

Jacob Ashford, 32, of Finkle Street, Cottingham, admitted assaulting PC Jack Moore, causing actual bodily harm, on February 21. He also admitted obstructing a police officer and possessing Class B and Class C drugs.

Stephen Welch, prosecuting, told Hull Crown Court that the officer was attending at an address in Arcon Drive, Hull, after a report of violence. He was speaking to a woman when Ashford entered the property and then tried to leave by a back door.

PC Moore tried to pull the suspect back into the address but he ran out the back and attempted to scale a fence. Both the officer and Ashford slammed into a fence, said Mr Welch.

The officer used Pava spray and Ashford fell back on top of the officer. He suffered an injury to his hand. Ashford was arrested and found in possession of unprescribed Pregabalin.
