John Cartwright has made an early Sam Lisone prediction and has outlined the qualities as to why Hull FC went out and signed the player on a two-year deal.
The Black and Whites won the race earlier this month to sign the 31-year-old impact prop for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, with Hull beating Lisone’s current club, Leeds Rhinos, to his signature.
And in outlining his punch as an impact prop, it’s clear Cartwright has got exactly what he desired, with, as reported by Hull Live several times this year, a big emphasis from the head coach and co. to strengthen the pack for next year.
That has seen Hull go in for St Helens duo Joe Batchelor and James Bell, Wigan prop Harvie Hill, and York back rower Connor Bailey, with quality and depth sought in both the middle and edge forward positions.
But there’s no second guessing what Lisone will bring, with Cartwright highlighting his strengths in his post-match press conference following Thursday night’s win over Wakefield Trinity.
“I think it’s an area in our game that is going to make us better,” Cartwright said. “He’s got a really strong carry, and he’s a tackle breaker and a try scorer. I think, in the right environment, he’s going to be a danger. We’re very fortunate he’s chosen Hull FC.”
Hull have been able to sign Lisone due to a quota extension that was finalised to all Super League clubs last Monday, meaning ten spots can now be used for overseas players.
Lisone is Hull’s ninth for next year, following on from Bell, Liam Knight, who the club has re-signed, and six current players: John Asiata, Jed Cartwright, Cade Cust, Herman Ese’ese, Jordan Rapana, and Aidan Sezer.
