Thunderstorms could “lead to some disruption” in East Yorkshire, the Met Office has warned.
Forecasters have issued a yellow-level weather warning effecting between 7am and 7pm on Sunday with storms expected to develop which could bring up to 25mm of rain “quite widely” within two-to-three hours where downpours occur.
The warning area, which is focused on the east coast of England from East Yorkshire to Suffolk, includes Hull and Beverley.
In its warning, the Met Office says: “Thunderstorms are expected to occur during Sunday, initially in the west of the region but spreading east through the morning. These will bring heavy rain, lightning and some hail.
“Within the warning area, 15-25 mm of rain is expected quite widely, much of this falling within two or three hours at any given place. Where repeated thunderstorms occur, locally higher peaks of 40-60 mm are possible.”
The forecaster says, where there are storms, travel and outdoor activities could be disrupted with a risk of damage to buildings from lightning strikes.
Overall, Sunday is expected to be a breezy day with a mixture of sunny intervals and scattered showers. Temperatures will peak at around 20C.
