A popular East Yorkshire village pub which has become a firm favourite for its food has been put up for sale by its owners as they look to retire.

The Stags Head Inn in Lelley is on the market with a £1.1m price tag, having served as the heart of the community for the village in East Riding of Yorkshire, for many years. The building dates back to the 19th Century and in 1855 it began to serve up beers, having obtained a full license to sell ale, and it has housed many landlords over the years.

Now its current owners are looking to retire, prompting property agents Sidney Phillips to act for the proprietors in a hunt for new owners looking to take the business forward. Known for its food as much as its brews, The Stags Head sale includes a big trade area with a central bar servery, large open fireplace and a main dining area where 80 people can tuck into the pub menu, while a separate function room comfortably seats 30 with room for approximately 40 standing.

Also included is the owner’s accommodation which has two double bedrooms, a single bedroom and a kitchen, bathroom and living room. As well as car parking for 30 vehicles the pub has a sizeable beer garden with plenty of bench seating and wooden marquees, a space which is extremely popular in the warmer months and increases the pub’s capacity.

Marketing materials for the hostelry highlight its popularity with locals and visitors, saying: “The inn is surrounded by popular country walks, holiday accommodation and the nearby East Riding coastline. With outstanding online reviews for its food and drink, it is the choice establishment for locals and tourists alike.

“Understood to date from the mid-19th century, this two-storey detached property has been tastefully renovated to a high standard and in a style that is sympathetic to the age of the building. All trade areas are in keeping with the period of the property, however there are some modern twists, such as the exposed brickwork and decorative feature walls.

“Our clients have owned and operated The Stags Head Inn for a number years and have built the business into an extremely popular destination pub. The business generates a net turnover in excess of £1,000,000 per annum with a good net profit. Currently trade is split approximately 50/50 between wet and dry sales, both of which are increasing year on year. In addition to a thriving pub business, there is room to grow the private function side of the business, which has recently been introduced and is growing rapidly.”
