Willie Peters says Harvey Horne’s new deal with Hull KR is “thoroughly deserved” with the outside-back’s future now secured until the end of the 2027 Super League season.
The 20-year-old academy graduate has impressed across loan spells with Doncaster and Sheffield Eagles this year to date, gaining valuable first-team experience.
Son of former Robin Graham Horne, the youngster was a part of Hull KR ’s extended Wembley squad last month, travelling down to the capital with the side and was part of the preparations as they lifted the prestigious Challenge Cup trophy at Wembley.
On his new contract, Horne said: “Hull KR is my boyhood club and I’ve been here since scholarship, it’s great to stay with the club.
“It’s a good place to be at the moment with the group we have and the team winning the Challenge Cup. The challenge is now to push for selection this season and next year.”
Although he has yet to make his Super League debut, Horne believes his time in the Championship has laid a strong foundation for his eventual step up.
“It was a good test for me. Most young players need game time in the Championship before they step up to Super League,” he added.
“Being coached by my uncle (Richard Horne) at Doncaster was a bit weird but it was a great experience. At Sheffield all the lads were great and the game time was good for my development.”
Rovers head coach Peters praised Horne’s growth and suggested a first-team debut could be on the horizon.
“Harvey’s new extension is thoroughly deserved,” said Peters. “He’s worked hard to continue his development and improve over the last year.
“We’re looking forward to Harvey continuing his development over the next few seasons to put himself in a position to play for Hull KR’s first team.”
