Work on a major Willerby roundabout that “needs to be upgraded” will start this month.

The essential improvements to Great Gutter Lane roundabout are initially set to be carried out across three Sundays – July 13, 20 and 27 – between 4.30pm and 11pm, with the rest of the work taking place in August. During these times, Grange Park Lane – where drivers access Willerby Shopping Park – and Great Gutter Lane East will need to be closed.

Footpath access will be maintained to McDonald’s and KFC, with parking available on Great Gutter Lane West. East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the timing of the work has been scheduled to cause the least amount of disruption to motorists, residents and local businesses, and fall outside regular trading hours for shops at the retail park.

The rest of the work, including resurfacing some approach roads, will continue on weekday evenings (Monday to Friday) starting on Monday, August 4, for around two weeks from 7pm to midnight each day.

For this stage, Grange Park Lane will be open but controlled by three-way temporary traffic lights and Great Gutter Lane East will be closed. The roads will all be open to traffic outside the working hours.

The council is investing £230,000 to resurface the roundabout, which links the A164 via the B1232 Beverley Road, Grange Park Lane and Great Gutter Lane.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “This is a busy roundabout but needs to be upgraded, so we have purposefully timed our resurfacing during the evening to cause the least disruption.

“Thank you in advance to motorists, local residents and businesses for their cooperation and support while we finish these improvements.”
