Overnight closures will continue on the A63 in July as work progresses on the Castle Street project.

National Highways says it has “now completed the most complex part of the concrete pours to create the base of the underpass”. The next phase will see the slip roads at Mytongate worked on for the new split-level junction, along with work on the central reserve on the A63 and the completion of further works at Market Place junction. This will include electrical works for the road signage and lighting.

Overnight closures are planned between Daltry Street and Roger Millward Way, Monday to Friday, from 8pm until 6am, on the following dates:

  • Monday, June 30 to Friday, July 4
  • Monday, July 7 to Friday, July 11
  • Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18
  • Monday, July 21 to Friday, July 25

For two of these weeks – between July 7 and 18 – the usual wider diversion route will be affected due to the closure of the A15/A63 westbound exit slip road at the same time. The eastbound entry slip at the A15/A63 junction will also be shut between July 21 and 25. Fully signed diversion routes will be in place on these dates.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “We would strongly advise people travelling in the area during overnight closures to plan ahead, allowing extra time for their journeys and to follow the signposted diversions.

“We apologise for any disruption to your journey.”

Work to lower the A63 at the junction with Ferensway and Commercial Road to create a new split-level interchange and widen the eastbound carriageway between Princes Dock Street and Market Place began in 2020. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
