This dog had a really tough start to life – but rescue workers refuse to give up on her. Little Wendy, a crossbreed, was rescued from a Romanian kill shelter to start a new life in the UK – and is now staying at Oakwood Dog Rescue in Hull.

But in order to start her new life, she had to be separated from her brother, Bob. Sadly, not a day has gone by without the one-year-old tearing up over her brother and best friend – but rescue workers hope her heart will heal when she meets the right owner. A statement reads: “Wendy was offered space with a rescue over in the UK and as upsetting as it was to split the siblings, it was believed that they could cope without each other and the opportunity for Wendy to start a new life in the UK was a rarity so it had to be taken up.”

When she arrived in the UK after a long journey from Romania, her original foster carers unfortunately left her alone for six long hours.

In that time, poor Wendy panicked and ripped the room to pieces, trying to escape the ‘scary, new environment’.

The rescue shelter said: “The foster carers left poor Wendy alone for more than six hours on her first day and in a panic, she had ripped up their lino, they immediately wanted rid!

“She went to the rescue that had accepted her but she was so scared and was trying to escape her areas to get to the other dogs.

“Wendy has only every known dogs her whole life and they are her safety blanket, understandably, she wanted to be with them to feel safer than it felt to be alone, especially after the past few days that she had just endured.

“The rescue said that they couldn’t keep her and that she needed to leave straight away. They said she was broken and they would send her back to Romanian.”

Thankfully, the charity who rescued her from Romania stepped in and moved her to Oakwood for a second chance.

“We’d just had a dog rehomed the night before and so we had a space available for her,” the statement adds.

“We jumped in the car and drove a five hour round trip to collect the frightened and confused soul.”

Oakwood will be Wendy’s last stop now before she goes on to her forever home, however long this may take to find.

The Hull rescue say Wendy needs an understanding owner who can work with her on basic training. She cannot live with children under 14-years-old.

An appeal reads: “So far, Wendy has shown that her confidence really grows when she is around other dogs.

“Although we are still not able to touch Wendy, when she is with all of her doggy friends, her whole demeaner changes and she is so much happier, she has even started coming over for little sniffs of the staff when the other dogs are there to back her up.

“We believe that Wendy will need to live with another dog as she completely shuts down when she isn’t around one.”

Commenting on Wendy’s rehoming posts on Facebook, one user said: “Thank you for giving her time. She’s beautiful.”

Another user added: “Beautiful girl. Wish I could rescue them all.”

A third user said: “Who a job you do. Must be so distressing for you at times but rewarding at the end.”
