Hull KR are now joint-favourites to win the Super League title later in October, with Betfred naming them alongside reigning champions Wigan Warriors.

Matt Peet’s Cherry and Whites saw their nine-game winning streak snapped by Wakefield Trinity, allowing Willie Peters’ Rovers to maintain their four-point lead at the top of the Super League table.

Daryl Powell’s Wakefield ended their own two-game losing run with a well-deserved 16-10 triumph at the DIY Kitchens Stadium, while Hull KR have laughed off any talk of a Challenge Cup hangover, securing emphatic back-to-back victories following their Wembley triumph. They demolished Catalans Dragons 68-6 – handing them their biggest-ever Super League defeat – less than a week after the Challenge Cup final, before dominating Castleford Tigers 48-0 on Thursday night in Round 15.

Wigan had previously been outright favourites to lift the trophy at Old Trafford later this year, but Hull KR have now drawn level at 6/5 odds, according to Super League’s betting partner, Betfred.

The two clubs are miles ahead of the rest of the competition according to the odds, with St Helens and Leeds Rhinos next best at 11/1 and Warrington Wolves at 25/1.

Hull KR are closing in an 12-months unbeaten against every side – except Wigan Warriors. Peet’s side claimed last year’s title at the Theatre of Dreams with a 9-2 score, and emerged victorious when the two sides met in April at Sewell Group Craven Park, with a 28-12 result.

The next instalment of this fast-growing rivalry will take place in August in a true test of title credentials.
