Sauaso Sue admits he is relishing the prospect of facing Castleford Tigers new star forward and soon-to-be team-mate Tom Amone on Thursday night at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Amone, 29, is in red-hot form after his player of the match performance in Castleford’s fourth win of the season, a 22-14 result over Hull FC in Round 14. The powerhouse prop has made an immediate impact following his return to England from the NRL, including a try at the MKM Stadium.

The former Leigh Leopards fan favourite signed a short-term deal to join Danny McGuire’s side from Canterbury Bulldogs, and will link up with Hull KR on a three-year deal from 2026.

Amone will face his future team-mates in Super League 15, with Sue – fresh from his own brace in the 68-6 crushing win over Catalans Dragons – looking forward to the middle battle.

“It’ll be good to go up against him,” said 33-year-old Sue. “He’s been one of the top props over the last couple of years.

“He’s always a fierce competitor. I always have good battles with him, and it’ll be good to have him on our side next year.”

Head coach Willie Peters admits he has not been surprised by Amone’s recent form. The Australian forward was selected in the Super League Dream Team back in 2023 while with Leigh. Rovers meanwhile will continue to be without Kiwi veteran Jared Waerea-Hargreaves for the clash with Castleford due to a calf injury.

On Amone and his recent eye-catching performances, Peters added: “I knew what we were getting, so it doesn’t surprise me. It’s good to see that he’s playing well. But he’s playing against us this week, so I hope he doesn’t go too well!”
