
An East Yorkshire head teacher has been named in the King’s Birthday Honours List.
Leon Myers, of Swinemoor Primary School, has received an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to education.
Mr Myers has been a head teacher in the East Riding for 20 years, including 16 years as head of Swinemoor Primary School which has achieved and maintained Outstanding recognition from Ofsted over this time.
After learning of the honour, he said: “I am deeply honoured and surprised. I am also deeply humbled by the nomination, and by the effort that the community has put into supporting this. I hope that everyone at Swinemoor, especially the children, feel some pride in what has been achieved through hard work at our school.”
Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “I am delighted that Leon has been awarded an MBE for outstanding contributions to education. This prestigious honour recognises his dedication, leadership, and tireless efforts for East Riding children and their families.
“Under his guidance, the school has achieved remarkable academic success, and he has inspired children to reach their full potential and I’m sure this will have a lasting impact on their lives, and also that of the local community.
“Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition from His Majesty The King.”
