Families have been invited to a fun day in Hull that will raise funds for, and help spread the word about a local charity.

T.I.C. (Tourettes Syndrome Inclusion in the Community) delivers support across Hull, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, but is a “little known” charity, according to one mum who has received help. Caroline Rollerson is among a number of parents who have pitched in to organise a fun day at Hull T.I.C. Hub, in Savoy Road, tomorrow (Saturday, June 14), from noon to 4pm.

She said: “We are hoping to raise some funds and awareness of this Tics and Tourettes charity. We’d like to get the kids some more equipment and maybe some other things, possibly some days out.”

Caroline’s son, Frank, eight, was diagnosed last year. The mum, from west Hull, said: “It’s a very misunderstood condition. The charity is so supportive of the kids and parents, they are absolutely brilliant, they go into a phenomenal amount of schools to raise awareness.

“The kids are so marginalised and it’s hard. It’s really, really difficult and it affects every aspect of their lives.” The fun day – “parent-led and full of community spirit” – will include food, ice creams, stalls, a talent show, raffle and tombola.

Caroline said: “We’d love as many people as possible to come along and enjoy themselves – there will be plenty of stalls and plenty of food. We have had some great prizes donated, including a holiday.”

The charity is also delighted to have the sponsorship backing of Hull Jets ice hockey team, after it recently announced the partnership with T.I.C. for its 2025-26 season. The club heard about T.I.C. through its community outreach programme.

Another parent said: “T.I.C. is an amazing charity that supports families living with invisible conditions across Hull, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. It helps so many families behind the scenes – this is our way of giving something back.”

T.I.C. aspires to promote inclusion for individuals living with Tourettes Syndrome and Tic disorders, overcoming barriers and creating positive relationships. It offers help for families navigating the challenges of diagnosis and adjustments needed; provides training to schools and medical professionals to increase their knowledge and understanding of Tourettes Syndrome and Tic disorders, and also runs a service for young people who are suspected of or diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
