Beverley girl Esmée Twidale has won a place in the grand final of Miss Junior Teen Great Britain, beating hundreds of other contestants across the UK.
Esmée, 14, will represent Beverley and the whole of East Yorkshire after being awarded the title Miss Junior Teen East Yorkshire. A student at Beverley High School, Esmée has been supported by friends and the local community to reach this stage and said she is grateful to all of those who have contributed to her journey so far.
She said: “I am really looking forward to being a positive role model for other young people across East Yorkshire and hope I can make a difference in the local community and for the charities I am supporting.” Esmée said she had wanted to enter the competition for many years, so reaching the final after applying for the first time was “a dream come true”.
“I have wanted to something like this for a long time, but didn’t know I could until I saw it on social media,” said Esmée, who had to answer a lot of questions about what is important to her, her hopes and dreams, and what she would do with the title, should she win. “It feels surreal to have reached this far in the competition, and I am extremely excited to take part.”
Esmée’s mum, Zoe Twidale, said the family were delighted she had been selected for the grand final of the competition, which will take place in Blackpool in October. Zoe said: “We are proud of Esmée for following her dreams and wanting to make a difference to the lives of other people. It’s a wonderful opportunity and we are sure she will make the most of it.”
Esmée, who enjoys dance and running in her spare time, hopes she can use the experience to be an inspiration to others and show people that anything is possible if you work hard. She hopes to raise money and awareness for charities she is passionate about.
Over the next few months, Esmée is taking part in numerous fundraising events to raise awareness and money for Together for Short Lives, Cancer Research and The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, being particularly keen to raise awareness of peanut allergies and the lack of access to treatment in the UK. Esmée is excited to have Brow Haus Collective, in Beverley, sponsoring her and would like to encourage other local businesses to get involved so she can raise as much money as possible – they can contribute by providing raffle prizes or by becoming sponsors.
Esmée also has a GoFundMe page to help fund the cost of the sponsorship fee and would welcome any donations, no matter how big or small. Please contact Esmée if you are able to help in any way via her Instagram page esmee.twi.
She will compete against about 40 other girls from across the UK to try and win the junior title. The grand final includes a beauty challenge day, an interview, photo shoots and multiple fashion rounds.
The winner will walk away with a cash prize, the Miss Junior Teen Great Britain title – and the crown. Esmée said: “I really can’t wait, it’s going to be an amazing experience!”
