Hull City still expect to confirm the arrival of Sergej Jakirovic in the coming hours after securing his release from Turkish Super Lig outfit Kayserispor.
Talks progressed over the weekend with the Kayseri-based club to secure the Bosnian’s exit. Now, the club is tying up the final loose ends in his contract. Once the ink is dry on a deal that runs for the next two years, plus the option of a third, City will announce it.
The 48-year-old will be joined at City by three of his most trusted aides with Marko Salatovic (assistant), Marin Ivancic (fitness) and Andjelo Roguljic (analysis) all coming in, after being granted work permits at a hearing last week.
City are also in talks with two possible candidates to come in and support Jakirovic, with both men experienced coaches in England, but the former Dinamo Zagreb chief will speak to the pair and make the final decision.
Once the manager is confirmed and in post, attention will turn to transfers and the desperate need to quickly add to a squad that finished outside the relegation zone on goal difference last season.
The Tigers must not allow a repeat of last summer’s mistakes, and they must bring in players quickly to enable the bulk of the squad to be ready for the start of the season.
