Transfer talk remains one of the key topics around domestic football as clubs plot their moves over the next few weeks ahead of the return to pre-season training.
For Hull City, the focus for now surrounds the appointment of their new head coach, Sergej Jakirovic, but the club know they must move quickly in the transfer market.
In our latest round-up, one of City’s January targets has secured an early summer move to one of their Championship rivals, while a popular former performer has hung up his international boots, and a current servant is in the thick of action for his country.
Here’s a round-up….
Palmer’s cameo
While many City players are on their summer holidays, Kasey Palmer has been in action for Jamaica. The playmaker’s latest appearance saw him come off the bench for the final 21 minutes in a crucial 1-0 win over the British Virgin Islands.
Steve McClaren’s side sit second in their CONCACAF World Cup 2026 qualifying group and face group leaders Guatemala on Tuesday night for the prize of being group winners, with both sitting on nine points after three wins from three.
The Reggae Reggae Boyz have already progressed through to the third round of qualification for next summer’s World Cup. The two sides will meet again next Tuesday in the opening game of the CONCACAF Gold Cup group stages.
Grosicki’s goodbye
Former City favourite Kamil Grosicki brought an end to his terrific international career over the weekend, notching up his 95th and final cap for Poland.
On his 37th birthday, Grosicki, who plays league football for Pogon Szczecin, played 31 minutes as captain in the 2-0 win over Moldova in a friendly at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów.
‘Turbo’ received a wonderful reception from his adoring home supporters as he says goodbye to international football, having scored 17 times for his country.
Sorba Thomas joins Tigers’ rivals
City spent much of January courting Sorba Thomas during his spell in France with Nantes. Ruben Selles was keen to sign the winger, but instead, opted to sign Louie Barry from Aston Villa.
After opting against making his loan move in France permanent, the Huddersfield Town man has now joined Stoke City after the Terriers accepted what new boss Lee Grant described as a ‘generous offer’ to sign the Wales international.
Thomas, who is currently on Wales duty, has agreed a three-year contract in the Potteries and ends his season in Ligue 1 with one goal in 25 appearances for Nantes.
Toffolo to leave Forest
Long-term City target Harry Toffolo has been released by Nottingham Forest after the Reds confirmed they would not be offering him a new deal at the City Ground. The left-back played 57 times for the Reds after joining alongside Lewis O’Brien from Huddersfield following their play-off final win over the Terriers in May 2022.
City have previously tried – and failed – to sign the now 29-year-old and would like to bring him in this summer, though that’s not expected to be possible.
Bringing in a left-back remains a big priority this summer, but it’s extremely unlikely to be Toffolo, with reported interest from Glasgow Rangers and Sunderland.
City in for Chungh?
Reports in the North East claim City have taken young forward Aaron Chungh on trial after his release by Sunderland following their promotion to the Premier League.
The Echo say the forward’s trial at City and Championship rivals Norwich City both went well, with the pair mulling over their next steps.
Chungh can operate wide or through the middle, was a regular in the Under-18s last season, playing 21 times in the Premier League youth competition, scoring twice and notching two assists. He also played for the Black Cats’ Under-21s and would be a development signing, should a move materialise.
