Hull KR centre Oliver Gildart is targeting a return to action for the final rounds of the regular Super League season, while Warrington Wolves have been dealt a major blow following their Challenge Cup final defeat.
Wire’s star Australian full-back Matt Dufty faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken eye socket at Wembley, sustained in a head clash with Rovers’ James Batchelor.
The 29-year-old tried to play on through the pain barrier, but eventually succumbed to the blow in the final exchanges of the final.
“He’s broken his eye socket when he clashed heads with 20 minutes to go,” Warrington head coach Sam Burgess confirmed post-match.
“Unfortunately it popped out with seven or eight minutes to go, so we’ll miss Dufty for a while. The boys wanted to get the job done for him, but that’s sport.”
Meanwhile, Rovers centre Gildart is underway with his rehabilitation. The 28-year-old suffered a meniscal injury in the Magic Weekend win over Salford Red Devils, and later underwent knee surgery.
The 28-year-old was in excellent form prior to the setback, scoring six tries and providing five assists in Super League before his injury in May. Now, he’s hopeful of making a return before the end of the regular season as Rovers aim for a potential extraordinary treble.
Providing an update on the BBC, he said: “I’ve just come out of the straight leg brace.
“I’m still a few months away yet, but I’m hoping to be back for the last few regular games of the season.”
