Hull City will face Premier League new boys Sunderland in one of their pre-season friendly encounters in preparation for the upcoming Championship campaign.

As the club nears the appointment of Kayserispor boss Sergej Jakirovic, this summer’s pre-season schedule has started to take shape, with City also facing Stockport County for the first time in two decades. That trip to Edgeley Park on July 26 will be the first chance supporters get to look at the new manager’s team in action on English soil.

The Black Cats, fresh from their Wembley triumph, will return to East Yorkshire three days after the trip to Stockport on Tuesday, July 29, in what will be the first of two MKM Stadium outings prior to the big kick-off.

During the club’s trip to Turkey, which begins on July 13 and sees the players spend a week at Riva, the home of the Turkish FA for the third consecutive season, City will play two games against opposition yet to be confirmed.

City had hoped to once again play Fenerbahce, but Hull Live understands that will now not happen. The Istanbul giants are set to be in Portugal for their training camp. One of those games is expected to be against Turkish opposition, with the other against a visiting team from Europe.

Sunderland were promoted in the Championship play-off final at the end of May with a stunning come-from-behind 2-1 victory over favourites Sheffield United, while Stockport’s remarkable rise from the non-league looked like taking them all the way into the Championship.

Unfortunately for County, Dave Challinor’s side were beaten in the play-offs by Leyton Orient, who ended up losing the League One play-off final to Charlton Athletic.

City are expected to confirm further friendly details in the coming weeks, with ticket information for two of their domestic outings to be shared in due course.

City’s schedule so far looks like this

Sunday, 13 July to Sunday, 20 July – pre-season trip to Riva, where the Tigers will play two games

Saturday, July 26: Stockport County (A) – 3pm

Tuesday, July 29: Sunderland (H) – 7:45pm
