A former Hull man is returning to his roots to help raise money and awareness for a charity that aims to prevent suicide and helps families affected by it.

Isaac Thompson, who is from east Hull, has joined with two friends still living in the city to organise the Ultimate Hull Walk and Talk. On Saturday, August 30, Isaac, along with Eddie Agius and Kieran Garsides, will walk “the entire length of Hull” in support of Mysterious Minds.

The trio – who recently took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge for another charity – hope lots of other people will join them for all, or sections of, the walk, which begins at Asda Bilton, at 11am. The contingent will walk through Hull to the Humber Bridge, and make a return crossing of it, with a finish at the bridge car park at around 5.30pm.

Isaac said: “Mysterious Minds is a charity that gives a lot of help to families affected by suicide. It isn’t something I have ever been through myself but I have seen someone come close and I know I couldn’t imagine a world without a family member or friend, especially knowing that they have passed away due to their mental health.

“It’s another reason why I’m trying to encourage as many people to come out and walk with us and talk about things they might be struggling with, just to try and make things that little bit lighter for them to carry. I’m someone that would always prefer to have someone message me, telling me they need to talk, even if I don’t really know them that well.

“Even though mental health isn’t something I personally struggle with I do know the effects it can have on family and friends. I can’t imagine how low someone must feel to take their own life.”

In a post about the walk, Isaac encouraged people to join in for the entire route or just a section because “your presence matters”. “This is a walk and talk event, open to everyone, regardless of fundraising.

“It’s about connecting, supporting and raising awareness for mental health.” Sponsorship forms can be provided by messaging Isaac on Facebook or by calling him on 07712 127741; local pubs and businesses carrying displaying a poster about the walk will also have sponsor forms available to pick up.

A JustGiving appeal page has also been set up for donations. Ultimate Hull Walk and Talk T-shirts are available, but not compulsory, for £15 each, with £3 from each sale going directly to the charity.
