Hull City will aim to take a step closer to completing a deal for Kayserispor boss Sergej Jakirovic on Wednesday with the Bosnian’s work permit hearing being held.

The Tigers need to safely navigate that process, and once that’s been completed, they can edge closer to confirming his appointment, and he can get to work after a brief family holiday following the end of the Turkish Super Lig season, which finished on Sunday.

Elsewhere, June may usually be a fairly quiet month but things are busy around the EFL and in our latest news round-up, we take a look at what’s going on…

A big day for City

The club will hope to have good news surrounding incoming new boss Sergej Jakirovic as they have a meeting with government officials to secure his visa. The Bosnian’s staff will also hope to ease through the process and ensure they get all the relevant clearances to take over. Assuming there are no issues, which are not expected, the visa can be granted within a day, which will help speed up the process.

Once those processes have gone through, City will look to make a formal announcement though that’s not expected just yet. It’s expected that it could come early next week with a press conference alongside Acun Ilicali being prepared.

Ilicali, meanwhile, was once again the centre of attention back in his native Turkey on Tuesday evening when he went on television to answer questions about Fenerbahce’s season, which saw them end without silverware. As always, such events are fairly lively and this one again generated no shortage of debate on either side of the Istanbul divide.

Randell on the move

Just four months after leaving Bolton Wanderers, former City winger Randell Williams has been shown the door by Leyton Orient after their Wembley heartbreak.

The O’s were beaten 1-0 by Charlton Athletic in the League One play-off final, and following that loss, the 28-year-old was one of eight first-team players moved on by Richie Wellens’ side.

Willams, who joined City from Exeter four years ago, left the MKM Stadium in January 2023 to join Wanderers before heading to Brisbane Road in January where he played 17 times, and came off the bench under the arch but could not help Orient find a way to stop Greg Docherty’s Addicks secure a return to the Championship.

All change in the Championship

Just hours after West Brom appointed former City star Ryan Mason, another managerial vacancy was filled in the Championship whilst creating one at Ashton Gate. Liam Manning has swapped Bristol City for Norwich City.

Manning guided the Robins to a play-off semi-final before losing heavily to beaten finalists Sheffield United, but will now move to Carrow Road where he replaces Johannes Hoff Thorup.

“I’m privileged and honoured to have the opportunity to work for this fantastic football club. It’s a wonderful club with a big history and tradition,” Manning said after agreeing a four-year deal in Norfolk.

“It’s clear, there has already been a lot of valuable groundwork laid in recent seasons – it’s now important we build further on that and move the club forward.”

More trouble at Wednesday

Across Yorkshire, the problems are mounting up for crisis club Sheffield Wednesday. Amid the ongoing uncertainty with manager Danny Rohl’s future, the club have again failed to pay their wages. The Owls have now been charged by the EFL for multiple breaches of its regulations relating to payment obligations.

Much-maligned owner Dejphon Chansiri has also been charged with ”causing the club to be in breach of EFL Regulations despite his commitment to fund their cash requirements” and has 14 days to respond.

For their part, Wednesday have had their say: “The club continue to seek a resolution regarding outstanding salaries due for the month of May at the earliest possible opportunity. Mr Chansiri sincerely apologises to all players, coaches and staff affected and everyone connected with the club.”
