Plans for a new drive-thru Starbucks at the Monks Way Retail Park have been approved by Hull City Council.
The retail park, situated off Pioneer Way in Kingswood, is set to be expanded with the addition of the Starbucks which will be built on the land North of the existing Tesco Express.
The approved application details plans for a new single storey building with a footprint of around 2000 sq ft to be erected with a one-way drive-thru route surrounding the building. Car parking and motorcycle parking is to be installed in front of the new building.
Documents submitted to the council state the building will be built in line with Starbuck’s “contemporary aesthetic” with a largely timber-clad facade.
Documents also claim that “a spacious paved area at the building’s frontage will be designed to warmly welcome customers into the café.”

The building will include ‘signage zones’ to meet Starbuck’s branding requirements. Such signage zones will be placed high up on the building to improve the visibility from the main road according to plans.
Access to the new Starbucks will be provided from the existing Monks Way car park which is itself accessible from Pioneer Way. The whole site will act as a one-way system with separate entry and exit points.
The approved plans state that the Starbucks would be “a valuable addition to the area, creating numerous job opportunities for the local community.”
The plans were approved subject to a Section 106 agreement which sets out that a sum of £3,000 is to be paid by the owner to the council for a “Biodiversity Gain Land Monitoring Contribution.”
