The high-rise office block above the Prospect Centre is set to become 45 apartments after plans were approved by Hull City Council.

The office block, built in the 1970s, has been subject to a number of planning applications in recent years. In 2019 an application to turn the building into 58 apartments was approved by the council, but despite being approved the plans never came to fruition.

The building was acquired by a new owner in early 2024 who then submitted a separate planning application in the April of that year, proposing to turn the building into 45 apartments. It was later approved subject to a number of conditions.

The approved application details plans for the 45 apartments to be established across five storeys. The apartments are set to be arranged as follows:

1st floor: One 2-bed apartment and four 1-bed apartments

2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors: Each of the upper floors will have seven studio apartments, one 2-bed apartment, and two 1-bed apartments.

The apartments will be accessed via the existing entrance to the Prospect Centre on Prospect Street.

Planning documents state that no external alterations are proposed for the building as the conversion of the building into apartments can be done solely through remodelling the interior of the building.

Now, a number of the conditions that were imposed have been finalised. These include a condition stating that the residents of the apartments will not be eligible for on-street residential parking permits. This has been done to ensure there is no loss of visitor and business parking spaces in the nearby area.

Another condition stated that work could not commence until secure cycling parking facilities for residents have been provided.
