A planning application has been submitted to Hull City Council outlining plans to convert two Georgian town houses opposite the Hull New Theatre into apartments.
1 Jarratt Street and 12 Grimston Street which are both Grade II listed, are situated on the junction where Jarratt Street meets both Worship Street and Grimston street, near the Old English Gentleman pub.
The application seeks to transform the two four-storey town houses, into six apartments, with a considerable amount of work proposed to buildings interiors and exteriors.
Planning documents submitted to the council state that the buildings have been empty for some time and that “the condition of the buildings, both internally and externally, is extremely poor and in some cases within the buildings, dangerous.”
Documents also state: “Although the facades of the buildings may appear acceptable, damage to the roofs of the buildings has resulted in severe internal problems.”
Plans claim that the decision to turn the houses into six apartments was taken to provide “a high standard of accommodation for future residents rather than maximising the potential numbers of units within.” It is also claimed that the houses being turned into apartments was “considered the best use of space and will be more attractive to future occupiers who are likely to be single people or couples who want to experience city centre living.”
The buildings would be accessed from the existing entrances for the two houses on Grimston Street and Jarratt Street respectively.
This application will now be reviewed and decided upon by Hull City Council.
