A mum-of-two has opened a new hair salon where the focus is on one-to-one.
Rebecah Wilson launched Rebecah Wilson Hair Stylist, in Market Lane, Barton-upon-Humber, earlier this month, planning to offer the personal touch. “It’s just me, in my lovely little salon,” she said.
“My aim is to offer a beautiful experience without the hectic. It’s great for someone who wants that quiet time for themselves without the noise and the busy-ness of a bigger salon, but it’s also great if someone needs to bring their children along; they know they are not going to disturb other people.”
Rebecah said she had a few clients who were parents of SEN children and they welcomed the calm setting without noise and distraction. She offers all the usual hair treatments – and some that other salons avoid.
“People do like a bouncy blow-dry and a glass of prosecco, I do a lot of those,” she said. “I also do updos and event hair – other hairdressers sometimes don’t offer those – and I am a colour specialist and I also offer hair extensions.

“I like to do a consultation first with a client so we can work out exactly what they want.” Rebecah had most recently been doing hair “for a couple of years” from her back bedroom at her home in Barton.
“My husband, Joe, is a firefighter and coming off shifts, it wasn’t ideal.” The Beverley-born mum originally took up hairdressing a few years ago before a “complete career change”.
“I worked at Greencore, designing celebration cakes and then went into the food manufacturing industry as a product technologist. I’d always kept an eye on hairstyles and trends and continued to do hair for friends and family.
“I thought I’d go back to college and get my level three in hairdressing – my girls were aged two and seven months at the time – and I did some extra courses on the side. I wanted to do it properly and get some experience in salons.

“I was self-employed, running things to fit around my family, and I was renting chairs but nothing gave me the flexibility I needed.” Rebecah was also keen to point out that her salon doorway was “wide enough for disability access”.
She said: “My mum is a wheelchair user so I know how important things like that are.” Rebecah Wilson Hair Stylist is open Monday to Saturday, from 9am until 5pm apart from Thursday when closing is around 8pm.
