Hull City midfielder Xavier Simons is the subject of interest from a number of clubs this summer with questions over his long term future at the club. The 22-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at League One Wycombe Wanderers, having spent the previous campaign on loan at Fleetwood Town.
Still contracted at City for a further 12 months and with the Tigers holding an option to extend that further, Simons’ future is tied down at the MKM Stadium but few will expect to see him stay beyond the transfer window. It is now being reported by EFL Analysis that Scottish side Hibernian have tabled an offer for Simons, with City considering their options.
City could wait until their new manager has had an opportunity to take a look at his squad in pre-season training before making a decision on any of their players, with the club looking to confirm the appointment of Sergej Jakirovic in the next few days. However, that approach is unlikely with the Tigers eager to trim the squad ahead of impending arrivals this summer as part of another rebuild.
After initially arriving on loan from Chelsea back in September 2022, Simons was signed permanently by then City boss Liam Rosenior in March 2023 and following a change in manager, he established himself as a regular presence under Tim Walter. Simons was unable to do the same under Selles and found himself sent on loan soon after Selles’ arrival. It is now expected he’ll be allowed to leave in the coming weeks.
