Aston Villa starlet Louie Barry admits he was gutted to not have played a part in Hull City’s survival bid after watching the Tigers seal safety on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth.
Barry, who arrived on loan from Villa in January amid great excitement, only managed three outings before suffering a serious knee injury his fourth City appearance in the 1-0 win at Sunderland back in February.
It looked like the 21-year-old playmaker would be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after initial fears about the severity of his knee injury, but the Tigers were given some hope that he would make a quicker recovery than first thought.
Unfortunately, the former Barcelona youngster suffered a setback and was ruled out for the final game which saw the Tigers go in front at Fratton Park through Matt Crooks, only to be pegged back in the second period and forced to settle for a point.
That point did prove to be enough because of Luton Town’s 5-3 hammering at West Brom, a result that sent the Hatters down to League One a year after their Premier League relegation.
“Gutted I wasn’t able to get over the line and get back on the pitch before the end of the season, but proud of all the lads getting the job done,” Barry wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to everyone at the club and all the fans for how you welcomed me when I first came in. UP THE TIGERS.”
At this stage, it’s unclear whether or not the Tigers will pursue a deal for Barry with it understood he may now not return to training until later in pre-season.
