Anlaby Road is closed in both directions due to a crash, Humberside Police have said.

According to traffic reporting service, Inrix, the road is closed due to an ‘accident’.

Police have also issued an update to social media. The force said: “Road closures are currently in place on Anlaby Road Flyover in Hull, between the junctions of Walton Street and Saner Street, following a road traffic collision this afternoon, Friday, 16 May.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area to allow emergency services to work safely.”

A lorry became stuck fast under a bridge in Hull this afternoon (Wednesday, May 7) at a spot which has become notorious for similar incidents.

The top of the HGV was caught under the Stoneferry Road railway bridge, causing delays to traffic. Motorists close to the scene shared their pictures with Hull Live.

One commented: “Another lorry stuck under Stoneferry bridge.” The post was met with replies including one that said: “When they did the Stoneferry ‘improvement’ they could maybe have tried lowering the road, like a dip.”

In answer to a post with pictures of the scene, one person said: “They never learn… Let the tyres down, move it.. Reinflate tyres.. Off ya pop!”

A further post said: “Pleased I’m not driving anywhere in Hull this rush hour” while one said: “Route planning is all you need to prevent that happening. That bridge is well signed, must have forgotten the height of his trailer.”

“Just another car driver’s nightmare in Hull. Happens daily,” is what one person wrote.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Officers are currently in attendance on Ferry Lane near to Stoneferry Bridge in Hull following reports of a lorry colliding with the bridge at around 3.45pm this afternoon (Wednesday, 7 May). Thankfully, no one was injured as a result, and road closures are currently in place to allow for vehicle recovery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible.”

Back in February, Hull East MP Karl Turner called for “urgent action” to be taken by Hull City Council to reduce incidents at the railway bridge over Stoneferry Road. He said after another in a run of incidents, which had closed the road: “It is clear that the current measures are insufficient.”

Mr Turner urged the council to “consider additional strategies to mitigate these disruptions” such as improving signage and exploring technological solutions such as vehicle height detection systems.

East Yorkshire Buses has launched a “full internal investigation” after one of their buses caused “significant disruption” to traffic in Hull this morning.

Shortly after 9am today, an East Yorkshire bus mounted a roundabout on Queens Road, bringing traffic to a halt as a result.

A photograph taken at the scene shows the bus mounting the roundabout at the junction of Queens Road and Princes Avenue.

A spokesperson for East Yorkshire Buses told Hull Live in a statement the company is working to resolve the situation “as quickly and safely as possible” and are “extremely sorry” for the inconvenience caused.

The full statement reads: “East Yorkshire Buses is aware of an incident involving one of our vehicles earlier today in the Hull area, which has unfortunately caused significant disruption to traffic and local bus services.

“We would like to offer our sincere apologies to all those affected, particularly our customers and other road users. We understand how frustrating unexpected disruption can be, and we are extremely sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

Chanterlands Avenue in Hull is currently closed in both directions following reports of a road traffic collision, according to police.

Road closures are in place between the junctions of Spring Bank West and Bricknell Avenue this morning (Wednesday, May 7). On social media, Humberside Police have advised motorists to avoid the area.

Traffic reporting service Inrix have said that Chanterlands Avenue is currently closed in both directions with heavy traffic in the area.

A number of roads will be visited by mobile speed camera vans in the coming days.

Drivers can see where the mobile cameras are likely to be situated through the daily enforcement schedule on the Safer Roads Humber website, which is published each week.
