Wrexham are keen to snap up former Hull City man Tom Cairney as the North Wales side look to make their mark on the Championship after sealing promotion, reports suggest.

Managed by another ex-Tiger in Phil Parkinson, Wrexham became the first club in English football history to claim back-to-back-to-back promotions, having come up from the National League in 2022/23 and were promoted as League One runners-up to Birmingham City.

Keen to push on for another under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob Rob McElhenney, who took charge in 2020, Wrexham are expected to spend in the transfer market this summer.

Now, the second-tier new boys have been linked with an audacious move for Fulham captain Cairney, and are prepared to pay him a whopping £50,000 per week, according to talkSPORT. The Craven Cottage skipper is out of contract this summer, having signed a one-year extension 12 months ago.

Cairney is 34 and came through the academy at City before leaving to join Blackburn Rovers permanently in 2014 after making 80 senior appearances for the Tigers, scoring five times.

The Nottingham-born midfielder has amassed more than three hundred career appearances and helped Fulham win promotion to the Premier League on no fewer than three occasions.

Operating under Marco Silva, who, like Cairney and Parkinson, is no stranger to City fans, the experienced campaigner has found opportunities limited this season. He’s started just twice in the Premier League, with the rest of his 23 top-flight appearances all coming off the bench and could end a glittering Cottage career this summer.

Should Cairney land at the Racecourse Ground, he’d add to the growing former City influence joining Parkinson along with Andy Cannon and Ryan Longman, as well as Beverley-born Jack Marriott.
