800 goats have sadly died following a reported fire, according to Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

The incident has been logged as a barn fire, on Marsh Road in Ottringham. It happened yesterday (Monday 12) at around 16:51.

The fire service said that “six hose reels, one main line, one light portable pump and six BA” were all used to tackle the blaze. Sadly, despite the best efforts of firefighters, 800 goats died.

A spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 4.51pm on Monday 12 May to a fire in a barn in Otrringham. We had six fire engines in attendance and an aerial ladder platform, and firefighters were on scene until 7pm the same day.

“Approximately 800 goats died in the fire and we were told approx. 1000 goats in the barn, so around 200 survived. The fire started accidentally after a heat lamp fell over and came into contact with straw.”
