Joe Gelhardt says he will leave Hull City with nothing but good memories and happiness, having rediscovered his love for football this season.

Gelhardt was plucked from the Leeds United bench when he joined City in January and went on to make 22 appearances for the Tigers, and scored five crucial goals to help the club avoid relegation on the final day.

Before arriving at the MKM Stadium in a short-term loan deal, the former Wigan Athletic youngster had played just nine minutes of football for the Whites before adding 1,600 minutes to that total in the black and amber.

What happens next in the 23-year-old’s career remains to be seen, with a future at Elland Road looking unlikely, while a potential move back to City is up in the air following the departure of Ruben Selles.

For now, Gelhardt is content to head off on holiday, reflecting on what was a hugely important second half of the season to get his promising career back on track.

“I just look back at it with with good memories and good people that I’ve met along the way,” the forward told Hull Live. “I’ve enjoyed every single minute that I’ve been here. The wins are even better when you’ve had a few losses as well, so just happiness and good memories.

“It’s been good. I’ve enjoyed my football so much here, the lads, the staff and the fans, just the club in general. I love it here, so thanks to the manager for trusting me and getting me to enjoy my football.”
