A planning application for a block of flats near the Hull New Theatre has been submitted to Hull City Council.
The application is for a two and a half story block containing eighteen flats which would be built on an existing car park north of Egginton Street.
The street in question is off John Street and Kingston Square where the Hull New Theatre is located, within a part of the city with a distinct Georgian character. Planning documents submitted to the council explain that the design of the proposed building has been influenced by the properties on John Street, therefore providing a “terraced street scene feel” according to documents.
Of the eighteen self-contained flats the building would contain, five would be 2-bedroom, whilst the other thirteen would be 1-bedroom. The block would have six flats on the ground floor, sevens flats on the first floor, and five flats on the second floor.

The site would have five car parking spaces as well as five motorbike spaces and eighteen cycles spaces.
According to submitted documents, the site of the application has been allocated for twenty four dwellings. Documents also state that the Hull local plan requires that developments of fifteen or more dwellings to allocate 10% to affordable housing. As the development in question is an eighteen dwelling development this would mean 1.8 affordable housing units would have to be provided. Plans state that one affordable unit will be provided whilst the remining 0.8 will be replaced with a payment made to the council.
