The dust is finally settling on the 2024/25 Championship season following last weekend’s play-off final. For many it is an opportunity to take stock, learn from the successes and failures and begin the preparations for the new campaign.

For others such as Hull City, it’s a mad time of trying to find a new head coach and creating an identity for the team moving forward. The season may have been over weeks ago for the Tigers, but they’re still without a manager and still unsure on the direction for the new campaign as they wait to settle on a coach to implement the vision.

It will no doubt be because of that, and because of the failures of this season, that City’s chances of making a dent on next season’s Championship campaign are currently being written off, for now. The betting market has opened for the 2025/26 campaign and in terms of predicting a winner and predicting which teams will win promotion, the Tigers are ranked 16th of the 24 teams in the division.

At 40/1 for the league title and 12/1 to win promotion, they are some way off the leading candidates with Ipswich Town at 6/4, Southampton at 2/1 and Sheffield United 5/2 as the three leading candidates to win promotion. Championship newcomers Wrexham are ranked at 13/2, some way ahead the Tigers according to oddschecker.

City will hope with a new manager in place and with a desire to spend money on reshaping the squad, the expectation on City having a good season will improve,. not just with bookmakers but with supporters at the MKM Stadium.
