A number of Coastguard teams came to the rescue of two people who became stranded aground in a boat four miles upriver of the Humber Bridge on Friday evening.
Shortly before 10pm, Cleethorpes Coastguard was alerted by Humber Coastguard to reports of a vessel that had ran aground with two people aboard.
With no way to access the vessel by boat, two mud technicians were deployed to board the vessel and assess the crew, following a “steep climb” up the sandbank.
With the help of other teams – including a Coastguard Helicopter – the two crew were brought to shore in a challenging operation.

“With the vessel grounded and no way to access it by boat, it was decided to deploy two of our mud technicians to board the vessel and assess the crew. With the help of Humber Rescue and members of the Hull Coastguard Rescue Team our technicians deployed, and after a steep climb up the sandbank, they boarded the casualty vessel to asses the two crew.
“The decision was taken to extract the crew to shore. It wasn’t an easy job for our team but with the assistance of Humber Rescue, Hull Coastguard Rescue Team and Coastguard Helicopter 912 the operation was bought to a safe conclusion and our team completed the clean up and stood down by 3.30am. A big thank you to everyone involved.”
