Splash-tastic fun is back in Hull from this Bank Holiday weekend.
The splash pads at Alderman Kneeshaw, Bude Road and West Park will be back in action from Saturday (May 24) and are set to be open from 10am until 5pm on weekends, bank holidays and during school holidays until Sunday, August 31, subject to the air temperature being at least 16 degrees.
The splash pad at Ings Road will return in time for the summer holidays too and remain open until Sunday, August 31, as well as the paddling pools at Oak Road and West Park.
However, Hull City Council says “issues with the quality of the surface” of the East Park splash pad were discovered following detailed inspections meaning it is currently not possible for it to open.
While temporary repairs have been made over the past two summers in order to keep the facility operating, the pad requires full refurbishment works to be delivered to ensure it is able to open to the public. The council says it is aiming to provide a “new and improved” East Park splash pad in due course.
The park’s splash boat will remain operational during weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.
Meanwhile, Pickering Park paddling pool is undergoing refurbishment works with hopes of it being open this summer. A preferred contractor is in the process of being appointed.
Cllr Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure at Hull City Council, said: “The council recognises the importance for these facilities to our local communities, as evidenced through seeking public feedback on what they would like to see on site at Pickering Park.
“It is pleasing that the council is in a position to be able to appoint a contractor for a brand new paddling pool.”
Cllr Pritchard added: “The opening of waterplay really signifies the start of summer in Hull.
“The splash pads and paddling pools are always incredibly popular and we’re delighted to be able to provide these safe, free provisions for our residents and visitors.”
