Funny and thought-provoking film I Swear is up for numerous awards
Hull-born actor Robert Aramayo has been nominated for the BIFA for Best Lead Performance for his performance in I Swear, a powerful biopic about Tourette Syndrome campaigner John Davidson MBE. The 33-year-old actor has also starred in Game of Thrones and Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power.
Robert’s proud father, Mike Aramayo, still lives in Hull. He said: “Robert has worked so hard in his career, from his early days at Cavendish playing Bugsy Malone, to taking drama at Wyke college and, with his sister Laura, performing on many occasions at Hull Truck Youth Theatre, guided by then Youth Theatre Director Lee Green, before eventually joining the world’s best drama school, Juilliard, in New York City.
“He has been involved in so many different projects filming around the world, working with some amazing actors and directors, like Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Foster, Amy Adams, Tom Ford, David Fincher, the list is endless.
“The nomination for the BIFA award is an amazing achievement, his lead role in the movie I Swear, was in my opinion an outstanding performance and the recognition is fitting to the emotional rollercoaster the movie puts you through.
“Robert is a great man and very grounded. Just to be mentioned on the same list as great actors like Jennifer Lawrence, Cillian Murphy, Frank Dillane, David Jonsson, and Harry Melling, is a testament to the dedication he puts into every role he takes.
“Just turning 33 last Wednesday, Robert has many, many years to carry on giving his family, friends and followers years of entertainment, and I, for one, am the proudest Dad walking God’s earth.”
In total, I Swear has received nine BIFA (British Independent Film Awards) nominations, including for Best British Independent Film. Writer and director Kirk Jones has been nominated for both Best Screenplay and Best Director.
Robert’s co-stars Maxine Peake, who plays Dottie, Peter Mullen who plays Tommy, and Glaswegian actor Scott Ellis Watson, who plays Young John Davidson, have all been nominated for best supporting performance.
Scott Ellis Watson was also nominated for Breakthrough Performance. Lauren Evans has been nominated for Best Casting.
Winners will be announced at the BIFA ceremony at the Roundhouse in London on Sunday, November 30. Nominations for the BAFTA Film Awards are announced mid-January.
