A talented Hull boxer has won the England Boxing National Schools Championships title for the third year in a row.

Laylah Beecher, 14, from east Hull, emerged victorious on Sunday, May 11. She trains at Tommy Coyle Academy with coach Paul Croll. Her parents, Cara and Mike Beecher, are incredibly proud of the hard work she has put in.

Her mum Cara said: “It was amazing. It was just – I can’t explain it. I’m just so proud.

“Obviously, we get to see her put all the hard work in in the background. It is really rewarding to see her achieve her dream.”

Cara said her daughter’s astonishing achievement was “every young amateur boxer’s dream”. If all goes well, Laylah’s next challenge will be boxing in the U19 European Championships in the Czech Republic in October.

The proud mum added: “She is electric, she is so hyper. We just can’t control her. But she is really, really excited for the future.

“She has been invited to her old primary school to do a talk for the whole school about her determination and discipline.”

Paul Croll, head coach at Tommy Coyle Academy, posted on the club’s Facebook page about Laylah’s achievement and said she is now the club’s “most successful boxer”.

“What an achievement for this young lady. I couldn’t be any prouder right now,” he said.

Laylah was selected to represent England at the Three Nations Tournament in Wales this month but, unfortunately, the Scottish boxer in her weight division pulled out so she no longer has an opponent.

However, the future looks bright for Laylah and she will be stepping into the ring again soon.
