A leading UK organisation looking to help farmers and growers by encouraging the use of technology in agriculture will use an East Yorkshire farm to demonstrate the benefits.
Cold Harbour Farm, at Bishop Burton, near Beverley, will host a farm walk and “innovations workshop” organised by the UK Agri-Tech Centre. The Hayward family, who farm there, will lead what they aim to be an insightful tour of the arable and beef farm, showcasing some of the latest innovations in use in the agricultural sector.
Adam Hayward, who owns Cold Harbour Farm in partnership with his family, said: “I think the benefit that new technology can bring is vast. The support that is available reduces the risk and cost of giving something different or untested a go on your own conditions with hopefully having a positive outcome.”
Through various talks from guest speakers, demonstrations and an interactive workshop, the event explores the latest from across the sector and discusses on-farm innovation and the current barriers to adoption. Visitors to the event will learn about a number of different on-farm technologies, the role of data connectivity and the impact of innovation adoption.
At the workshop, led by the UK Agri-Tech Centre’s knowledge exchange manager, Sarah Nightingale, guests will have the opportunity to identify and highlight gaps in the development and adoption of on-farm innovation, and engage in conversations around possible solutions with the organisation and inventive agri-tech companies.

Ross Robertson, farm technology specialist at the UK Agri-Tech Centre, said: “Through various forms of dissemination and knowledge exchange workshops, we can get farmers and end users involved to help co-develop innovations from the drawing board through to commercialisation. This early-stage engagement can really help solve problems and fill where there are gaps in the market, leading to the adopting of technology.”
The event will be held at Cold Harbour Farm, Bishop Burton, HU17 8JF, on Tuesday, June 3, from 10am-3.30pm. Attendance can be booked via Eventbrite.
