Former Liverpool winger Albert Riera has emerged as one of the bookmakers’ favourites to take over at Hull City after flying into the betting market over the past 12 hours.
Riera, who is in charge of the Slovenian club Celje and is known to be good friends with owner Acun Ilicali, has jumped into the betting at the top of the list with a best price of 1/2.
The ex-Mallorca youngster is understood to have been spoken to by City after casting their net far and wide, but it’s understood he is not the candidate Ilicali referenced in his interview with Hull Live earlier this week.
Sources have indicated that the 43-year-old ex-left winger has not been interviewed by the club, but that has not stopped a surge of money being placed on the Spaniard amid reports claiming he’s in the frame.
Elsewhere, much of the market remains unchanged, with Plymouth Argyle head coach Miron Muslic second at 6/4 and Emre Belozogulu an outsider at 8/1, with Michael Beale further back at 12/1.
Both Beale and Emre have been interviewed as Ilicali confirmed but Tony Mowbray who is alongside Beale at 12/1 has not been considered for the role on this occasion.
Recently departed Wales boss Robert Page and fellow Welshman Steve Cooper remain firm outsiders at 33/1 along with the likes of Rob Edwards and ex-Notts County chief Luke Williams.
Here’s what the bookies are saying…
Albert Riera: 1/2
Miron Muslic: 6/4
Emre Belozoglu: 8/1
Michael Beale: 12/1
Tony Mowbray: 12/1
Marti Cifuentes: 16/1
Gary O’Neil: 16/1
Tom Cleverley: 25/1
Rob Edwards: 33/1
Luke Williams: 33/1
Rob Page: 33/1
Steve Cooper: 33/1
