Hull’s Dove House Hospice has been awarded a £10,000 “Colleague Grant” from Nationwide Building Society, secured through its Jameson Street branch.
The funding will directly support the hospice’s Family Support Team, including the Child Bereavement Service, providing over 540 additional hours of tailored emotional and psychological support to children and families navigating grief across Hull and the East Riding. The award has come as part of Nationwide’s commitment to supporting causes that champion fairer futures and thriving communities.
This latest grant was made possible thanks to the efforts of Sammie, a dedicated staff member at Jameson Street, who submitted the successful application in collaboration with the hospice. Sammie recently visited Dove House for a cheque presentation to celebrate this impactful contribution.
Jethro Shearring, senior fundraiser at Dove House, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Nationwide Building Society for awarding us this grant, and to Sammie and the entire Jameson Street team for their unwavering support and enthusiasm over the years. This funding will have a truly transformative impact on the lives of the children and families we support, helping us respond to rising demand and provide timely, compassionate care to those who need it most.
“The generosity and creativity shown by the staff — from organising bake sales to tackling sponsored challenges — has been nothing short of inspirational.”
Since its inception in 2019, the hospice’s Child Bereavement Service has supported over 500 children, 94 per cent of whom experience complex emotional and social challenges beyond their bereavement. Demand for this service continues to grow, with a 68 per cent increase in referrals over recent years.
This grant builds on an incredible history of support from Nationwide’s Jameson Street staff, Dove House said. Through a combination of grant applications, fundraising events, and community initiatives the team has now raised over £30,000 in support of the charity.
Nationwide Colleague Grants help to fund a wide range of initiatives across communities in the UK that support causes close to employees’ hearts. They include supporting those living with a debilitating medical condition to providing equipment to sports groups and schools to helping those in need with essential items like food and toiletries.
