Former Hull City striker Aaron Connolly will once again begin the task of trying to find a new club after being released by Millwall following the conclusion of the Championship season.

Connolly ended the season at The Den after signing a short-term deal in January following his departure from Sunderland and scored once in 14 appearances in South London, but will not be kept on after boss Alex Neil opted to release the 25-year-old.

During his short stint with the Lions, Connolly was often deployed wide on the left-hand side, rarely being played through the middle in attack. His sole goal came in a win over QPR after making his debut in a 1-0 loss against City in January.

The Republic of Ireland international has endured a tough few years since bursting on the scene at Brighton and Hove Albion and found himself playing in Italy’s second tier, before Liam Rosenior brought him to City in August 2023 to give him a chance to rebuild his career.

It was City where Connolly found his best form, scoring 10 goals in 36 appearances. His season was curtailed last January when he was badly hurt in a collision with Norwich City goalkeeper Angus Gunn, before being released by the Tigers last summer.

During his short spell at Sunderland earlier this season, Connolly spoke out about his struggles with alcohol and how that issue has impacted his football career.

Millwall have also released Murray Wallace, who was a potential target for City back in January when the club were trying to sign defensive cover at left-back, but Ruben Selles opted against bringing the 32-year-old Glasweigan to the club.
