Hull City continue to make progress in their search to appoint a new manager and could have an appointment by the end of the week.
After a weekend dominated by talk surrounding the potential appointment of Emre Belozoglu, the former Newcastle United midfielder, the club’s hierarchy will ramp up their efforts in the coming days with a desire to complete the process sooner rather than later.
Sources involved in the recruitment process have told Hull Live that there are now as many as five potential contenders to replace Ruben Selles, who lost his job at the MKM Stadium last Thursday after six months in the job.
Conversations have continued over the weekend between owner Acun Ilicali and those close to him, including sporting director Jared Dublin and head of recruitment Martin Hodge as the club look to secure the candidate they believe can get City challenging again next season.
More interviews are scheduled to take place on Monday and Tuesday of this week, with City set to cast their eye over candidates keen on replacing Sellés, having already held talks with potential suitors late last week.
It’s understood that two of the candidates being interviewed have experience of managing in the Championship, but the club, at this stage, are keen to keep their cards close to their chest on the identity of their prospective new head coach.
Despite reports emerging over the weekend linking former City midfielder George Boateng and Will Still, who has just left Lens at the end of the Ligue 1 campaign, sources have indicated neither are in the running to take over at the Championship club. Still has been linked to the vacant role at Southampton following their relegation back to the second-tier but will not be coming to the MKM Stadium.
Owner Ilicali, meanwhile, is expected to be in East Yorkshire later this week and could host his latest fan Q&A with the owner keen to speak to supporters.
