An inspirational Hull mum who wanted to help other women feel confident in their own skin has spoken of her joy of going viral on social media after launching her own fashion account.
Laura Peskey, 33, felt “stuck in a rut” and lacking in confidence after welcoming her second child seven months ago, and decided to launch channels on both TikTok and Instagram to help “mid-size” women like herself find clothes that work for them.
Amazingly, in just a month since starting her journey, she has amassed more than 4,000 combined follows across both platforms and is gaining more on a daily basis.
Speaking to Hull Live, Laura said: “When you have a baby, your body changes and it knocks your confidence. I’m still on maternity leave now and none of my clothes fit me anymore. I found myself stuck in a bit of a rut. I thought, ‘surely there’s got to be other women who feel like this’.
“I’ve always had a love of fashion and I did a degree in it. I needed to get out of the house and treat myself to some new clothes that fit, so I went into a few shops, had a look what there was, brought things home, tried them on and learned what looked good on me and what didn’t.

“I thought I’d start the channel because I knew there’d be women out there who feel just like me. There is a really nice mid-size community already and I’ve spoken to a few girls who have been really supportive. I needed to do something to make other women feel confident and myself, too. I suffer with social anxiety so it’s really helped my confidence.”
Laura said she often receives messages from other women to let her know how much she has helped them through her videos.
“It’s such an amazing feeling,” she said.

“People say I’ve given them the confidence to try something different, so that’s really nice. It’s really rewarding.”
When asked what advice she would give to anyone who may be lacking in confidence but wants to start their own channel, Laura said: “I’d say, just go for it. Before I started this I used to put on an outfit and look in the mirror and go, ‘no, I don’t like that’, and then sometimes I’d be like, ‘I love it’, but going out in public, I’d worry about what people thought.
“But since starting this, my confidence has grown, as has the way I think about myself and my body.”
Laura is also keen to join forces with local independent businesses. You can watch her videos on TikTok by clicking here and on Instagram by clicking here.
