A terrified woman was left with nasty injuries, including two black eyes, after her bad-tempered ex-boyfriend suddenly grabbed hold of her, pulled her out of bed and bit her on her face.
Kieron Pidd had a history of violence, including to women, and he had drunk five cans of rum before he attacked the woman in a “prolonged and persistent” assault that left her suffering serious anxiety problems, Hull Crown Court heard.
Pidd, 36, of Tenterden Close, Bransholme, Hull, admitted assaulting the woman, causing actual bodily harm, on September 3, 2023. He originally denied the offence at a hearing on September 5 and the case had been listed for trial.
Holly Thompson, prosecuting, said that Pidd and the woman were in a relationship for about eight weeks between July and the end of August, 2023. They were both at her home on September 2, 2023 and they had been drinking.
At 1am the next morning, she was in bed and was scrolling on her mobile phone when Pidd walked over to her side of the bed. Out of nowhere, he snatched the phone, grabbed hold of her and pulled her to the floor. He bit her on her face.
The woman called the police. Pidd left the house and she went to her mother’s home in the next street and she again called the police. During the assault, the woman suffered two black eyes, a swollen nose, cuts and teeth marks.
The woman later said that the assault had left her feeling anxious. “I feel anxious going out, just in case I see him,” she said. “I am scared of him.” She had changed her routine, including which way she went to the shops.
“I am anxious all the time,” she said. She was upset that her children had to see her with the injuries. Her son was scared and upset when he saw her injuries. “It was a prolonged and persistent assault and it had a substantial impact upon her,” said Miss Thompson.

Pidd later told police that he and the woman had an argument that night and that he had drunk five cans of rum. He had convictions for 40 previous offences between September 2004 and August last year, including 10 involving assaults, two of them violence against women.
In 2015, he assaulted a woman in a pub by grabbing her around her throat and sticking two fingers down her throat, causing her to choke. More recently, he picked up a brick during an argument with a girlfriend and threatened to smash the windows of a car.
David Godfrey, mitigating, said that Pidd had been drinking at the time of the assault. “He is thoroughly ashamed of his behaviour in relation to his previous relationship,” said Mr Godfrey.
Comments that Pidd made to a probation officer showed that he had been frank and honest and he had shown a degree of insight and shame. “There is genuine regret and great remorse,” said Mr Godfrey.
“Plainly, it was an ugly incident that brings some shame on him. There is no suggestion of any difficulty between the parties since the offence.”
Pidd worked going out to sea as a fisherman on a rotation basis and he contributed to society. “He has put these building blocks in place since this offence,” said Mr Godfrey.
Pidd, who had been on bail, was jailed for two years and eight months. He was given a 10-year restraining order.
