The plans were unanimously approved at the council’s Eastern Area Planning Sub-Committee held on May 12. A number of councillors spoke of the importance of the application and the impact the centre could have on the town and its children. These included Cllr Paul Smith who said: “What a wonderful project, long overdue, very much needed in the town of Beverley.” Similarly, Cllr Linda Johnson said the youth centre is a “much needed resource for the children of Beverley.”
She added: “Youth services in Beverley have been decimated over the years and this innovative new building will ensure that the ninety odd children who attend the Cherry Tree youth centre will have shelter, warmth, and somewhere to go because at the moment they have nowhere, they’re just stuck out in the wind and the rain.”
The construction of the site is set to take place between May 14 and 21 ahead of a reveal which is set for May 22.
