A crochet soldier has found his way back to his post after he mysteriously vanished last night.
Louise Marie, 43, runs a Sunday crochet course which Hedon Town Council commissioned to make the crochet soldiers which delighted residents when they were unveiled on VE Day on Thursday. Each soldier is handmade and can be found on bollards in Market Place.
But disaster struck when one of the students noticed a soldier was missing today. Louise told Hull Live: “All the soldiers are referred to as Sergeant York because during the war, part of the East Yorkshire regiment was based in Hedon and that is the local connection.
“It was all good yesterday, everything was fine, then one of the ladies went into the village this morning and was distraught that one of them had been taken.

Thankfully, it was found on Princes Avenue this morning. “The chap who found it was only here for work and is not local but came across it on his way to work and picket it up, called the Council, and dropped it in.
Thanks to the man, Sergeant York is now back on duty. Louise said eight of her learners had taken part in making the soldiers and Hedon residents had fallen in love with the “cute” figures.
She said: “When we started sorting them out yesterday, there were kids stopping to take photos, everybody was commenting on them, all the cars were stopping rather than just going trough the traffic which was really nice. It has just been the talk of the town really.”

Louise added: “Hedon is a small town and there is a sense of community. Lots of people know about the crochet so it is quite popular but nobody has done anything like this in the town.
“There has been a bit of yarn-bombing, people have put up little decorations on trees and a little bit of bunting, but this is the first big thing that we’ve had. The timing of it with VE Day was just spot on.”
Louise has both a beginner and intermediate crochet course held on Sundays and may soon be starting an online course. She can be reached via her Facebook page Louise Marie Crochet.
