Hull KR have been handed a welcome boost ahead of their Challenge Cup semi-final against Catalans Dragons with head coach Willie Peters handed fresh squad options thanks to a couple of timely returns.

Wing duo Tom Davies and Joe Burgess have both returned to training this week and are in contention to feature in the last-four match at York’s LNER Community Stadium. Davies has missed the last two weeks with a shoulder problem, with Burgess missing for the same period through concussion, having been given an extra week last week when missing the Magic Weekend win over Salford Red Devils.

Having missed the game in Newcastle in order to rest some minor niggles, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is also back in full training and expected to be named in the 21-man squad on Thursday afternoon, as is Kelepi Tanginoa (concussion).

Oliver Gildart does remain a doubt, however. The centre hobbled out of St James’ Park after lasting less than 10 minutes of the Magic Weekend game thanks to a knee injury. There is damage to the knee, but Rovers are still waiting medical advice on how much damage and whether he can still play.

“Tom and Joe are fine and will be back, as will Kelepi,” explained Rovers coach Willie Peters. “Jared is fine too and was more a case of just resting, while Kelpi had to have the week off for concussion protocols, while Tom Davies could possibly have played but it was always about giving Noah Booth an opportunity.

“Gildart, there is something there which we can see on the scans, now he has to see a specialist about whether he can play and we will see how it goes off the back of that and whether he will be okay or if he needs surgery. We should know more later on Thursday. I terms of what happens next we will be led by the medical advice.”
